Uneven Octagonal Spa Cover
To measure for your new hot tub cover or replacement hot tub cover, use your old cover, if it’s available. Especially for unusual shapes, like an octagon with sides that are not all the same. You’ll need to make sure to use a cover that lies flat and does not have extensive weather damage to ensure proper measurements. Otherwise, read the following directions. (Please view our exclusive video for more detailed information.)
If you have a hot tub in the shape of an octagon, and all sides are of the same length, please read the measurement directions on the Octagon Spa Cover Page. For an octagon-shaped spa, where the sides are not all of the same length, get out your tape measure and measure each side carefully. To make sure you’ll have a proper fit, besides double-checking your measurements, add an extra 1” to each side. This way, even if you make a mistake, your new cover will fit over the water and will not let heat escape.
You may also want to indicate where the controls are located in relation to the sides, so that our manufacturer will know where to place the fold in the hot tub cover.
Next, measure across the length and the width of your hot tub. Add 1” to the measurements.
Should you measure your spa tub cover from rim to rim of the wood cabinet, or should you just take measurements from the acrylic spa, lip to lip? The decision is yours. See the figure below to help you choose. If you want your new hot tub cover to extend over the top of the wood rim, take measurements from the wood cabinet. If you just want it to cover the tub itself, just measure from lip to lip. As long as the cover seals over the water completely, no heat will escape, and the cover will be doing its job.
Finally, you’ll need to take measurements for the skirt or flap that extends below the seam of the hot tub cover. Make sure it is long enough to hang straight down without peeling back. The standard length is a good 3”, but this will vary, depending upon whether you took measurements for your new spa cover from the acrylic tub or from the wood rim.
