Rectangular Spa Cover
With Rounded Corners

If you are ordering a replacement hot tub cover, you can use your old cover to obtain measurements for your new cover, as long as it still lies flat. Otherwise, use the measurements of your tub to place your order for a new cover.

Rectangular-shaped hot tubs are measured the same way that you would measure square tubs, and when they have rounded corners, you must also allow for this, too. This means that you’ll need a carpenter’s square or a corner radius chart to measure the corners accurately. Make sure to err on the side of a small radius when taking corner measurements. This way, even if the corners of your new hot tub cover hang over just a bit, your cover will still protect your tub and keep it energy-efficient. If you are in doubt, please review our exclusive video.

As the video demonstrates, you can take measurements from the acrylic tub (lip to lip) or you can decide to also include the wood rim (as shown in the figure below). If the rim is particularly wide and forms a shelf beyond the edge of the acrylic portion of the tub, then you might want to consider including the wood rim. This way, debris and leaf litter won’t collect there.

When measuring the hot tub cover skirt or flap, you’ll want it to hang straight down, not curling up or buckling. This means that you’ll want to make sure that the skirt is long enough to insulate your hot tub. A skirt that extends at least 3” below the spa cover seam will be long enough to cover the spa cabinet rim (Also found in the figure below)

Bigger is better when measuring your replacement hot tub cover or new hot tub cover. A cover that is too small will diminish your tub’s ability to hold a consistent temperature. As long as the cover acts as a lid to seal in heat and protect your tub from the elements, it will help to extend the life of your hot tub.
